
Class Actions - A close examination of the key issues that determine the conduct of a case
This seminar will examine the key issues in class action litigation. The Honourable Justice John Basten, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of NSW will provide the keynote address. Nick Beaumont SC will discuss the requirements for commencing a class action, including standing and pleading requirements, and Dr Peter Cashman will examine security for costs in class actions. A panel of leading practitioners will discuss the contentious current issue of competing class actions. The speakers are Odette McDonald, Director, Phi Finney McDonald, Peta Stevenson, Partner, King & Wood Mallesons and Professor Michael Legg, UNSW Law. The panel is chaired by Clive Bowman, Chief Executive - Australia and Asia, IMF Bentham Ltd. To conclude the session University of Oxford Professor, Christopher Hodges will discuss UK and European Responses to Mass Loss.
